In the midst of the two evading Ale's aristocratic father while searching for clues, a flash-back timeline hints at what her mother's been up to as a survivor and an optimist muse about the world and higher powers.

A meta-theatrical romance, "By Design" by Shelby Fairchild explores themes of consent, connection, and free will as Ale and Nat have to decide how much they're willing to risk in order to help - and love - each other.
