Eloise Carter Walne facilitator - coordinator - founder

At the beginning of the pandemic I wanted a way to get structured high quality feedback on a play I wrote as well as stay in touch with my friends who also had a passion for theater. I knew my playwright friends might also want a way to have their new work read as it is an important part of the editing process. Thus, Table Manners was born and has continued to expand since its inception, connecting performing artists across the states who otherwise would not have had occasion to meet.

Since the beginning of my participation in the Summer of 2020, Table Manners has offered a much-needed space for purposeful reading and connection with new and familiar artistic faces. I think the Table Manners atmosphere of effort over self-conscious polish in service of new work is a special and crucial one, both inside and outside of the pandemic context it was born into. In early 2021 Eloise invited me to become a co-facilitator and coordinator of the group. I assist with creative direction and scheduling, developing and upholding community standards, and reading play submissions. I have also served in establishing our community guidelines and hope to be a welcoming and familiar face as this effort continues.

I was cast in Table Manners’ first reading in August 2020. I am deeply passionate about theatre as well as building and nurturing creative communities. I envision Table Manners developing into a company that dives into new works both online and in-person one day. Recently, Eloise asked me to become a co-facilitator and coordinator and I am thrilled to help shape this amazing community going forward.

Eddie can’t remember when he joined Table Manners, but he’s happy he ended up here! This space has been nothing but pure collaborative bliss. Table Manners allows artists to explore texts that shock, excite, and move us in our daily lives. Everyone has a seat, everyone has a part in the creative journeys that we embark on as a collective. After directing Icarus and Amelia Earhart Had Tea This Morning, Eloise invited me to help facilitate the group. I am excited for this opportunity to watch work blossom and set seeds for further growth.
